I'm really quite tired of sitting down here and trying to think of something to say. We live in such a fake world. It's disgusting. I disgust myself.

We leave in less than ten hours for Arizona. I'm not excited. Today was an incredible day, I feel like I've been cured from a deadly infirmity or awoken from hibernation. The Boyds came to the fellowship luncheon and I got to sit inbetween them at lunch and during Sunday School. (care for a gummy worm, Anna?) Sam made me laugh harder than I have in a long time; it was worth it even if I did choke on my milk. Then I got to serve ice cream with Danny and pretend to be cool and joke with him and I didn't make a fool of myself too badly, which is more than I usually bother to ask as far as he is concerned. And I'm getting better and better at carrying on conversations with people I'm not comforatable with. I'm even enjoying it. I made friends with Jacob over the last several weeks and I'm very proud of that, because I don't usually make friends on my initiative. Maybe next I'll take on Tessa. Out of lots of deep discussion during long hours at the co-op nursery, Jessica and I have formed this brilliant half-mocking, sarcastic relationship that bounces perfectly off all other friendships as we travel in our different circles. Christina trusts me more than my rare loyalty has ever deserved.

I love my church. I'm slowly realizing this, I absolutly love my church. They could be so, so much more, but I don't think they're doing anything wrong and I honestly truly love being there almost more than anywhere else on the plannet. I don't think I could quite stay forever, but I think you have to loose something when you go bigger and start being more accepting and loving, as odd as that is. The people are faithful here, and they stick together for the most part. It inspires me.

But quite frankly I have no desire to get in a car with five other people and two week's worth of stuff and head out down the road, driving all day and stopping to sleep in the woods every night. It's like Dee said, you almost need a vacation to recover from vacations. We're going to kill each other. It seems like the very least my parents could do for this broken family would be to acknowledge that we're broken, but instead they insist on pretending.

Oh! I'm reading Emma, and she is so much like me! Well, except for the whole not-wanting-to-get-married-ever part. And we watched Sense and Sensibility again the other day. Jane Austin is an absolute genious. Her hidden sarcasim and the absolute hilarity with which she constructs diolague, I just could not get tired of reading it. Especially when I read it out loud. She's quickly becoming my favorite author of all time, maybe even better than Ann Weil. She fell! She fell, and he's carrying her! I don't know why I read as little as I do, whenever I am reading I am twice as happy as when i'm not. It's the perfect refuge.

I guess you never know, I could end up having a great time on vacation. At least I have low expectations. I'm definantly determined to make the best of it. And I plan to write letters and read more Jane Austin and perhaps break in some new songs (quick, any recomendations?) and definantly get inspiration so I can start writing again when I get home.

Hum, I sound like such a little rain cloud. Only one exclimation point in the whole post! (op, two.) I don't mean to be negative. I mean, there's grace. How can anybody stay negative for long while there's such a thing as grace?

I hope you have fun on your trip :) You might be surprised.

Song suggestion, hmm. . .

Well, you could bring your camp hope book. The songs in there are some of the best, in my opinion.

At least you should enjoy God's creation! I love to look at the trees, birds, water and even the bugs. ;) And don't forget the mountains and sky and stars and clouds and. . .

*sigh* So much of God's beauty around! I don't think we appreciate it as much as we should.

Even your parents and siblings are a good reminder of God. Patience and wisdom is something that everybody needs for their family.

I do hope you have fun. We will all be thinking and praying for you!

Em!!! What AM I going to do for TWO WHOLE WEEKS without you?!?! *sobs* I hope you do write though, that would be special.

I'm sorry things seem so negative right now. I can say I know what that's like, and I'm not sure there's any thing I can say that would make it all seem a little less negative, cause nothing ever seems to matter when you feel like that. But I am SOOOOO glad that you are connected at your church, and that you feel comfortable there. If any thing, just give thanks to God. Having that sense of belonging to a church is a true gift from God... a gift I hope to receive one day. :) So take comfort in that, and take comfort in God.

You'll have fun, you'll see. I've had that same kind of feeling before and it turns out that I have tons of fun I didn't even want to have. Try to look at the bright side, and don't let it drag you down.

I Love you Em! I CANNOT wait for your return. :)

*sigh*
i'm gonna miss you. no bringing home any california boys, i forgot to warn you of that yesterday.

i love the people at church, for the most part. yacobo and danny and you and mike-e and christina and devon once a year and who else....

sense and sensibiltiy is awesome!
man.
what a movie until the last half hour.

well, have fun on your vacation, i hope you left nice and early, (like by nine) and you are wherever you are safely.

Last I heard, they were leaving in the wee hours of the morning. Like at three.

I am so glad you are happy in your church. That is about how I feel about mine.

Your post does not sound like a raincloud. You sound much more posative. (sp?)

And if you determine to make the best everything, you will have fun. Camping may be dirty, but their are the forests to explore, and the secret fields to find, and the awsome trees to climb (I never actually climb the trees, I aplaud my silbling from below.
As for the actual driving time, you could write out a list of ideas, games for you and your siblings to play, or games to get them going on, for when they are bored or arguing . . . sometimes you can find things on the internet, if you get connection.

Read. Listen to a book on tape. Make up a story. Draw something. Play twenty questions. Play the alphabet game. Play a card game.

wait, wait...who's Dee? because I know a Dee who everybody else seems to know too.

*cringe* anna is not going to like that. she pretty much hated Emma. I, on the other hand, liked it. It's not as good as Pride and Prejudice though. you should tackle Les Mis next (JK, pleeeaaase don't put yourself through that!). but maybe Nicholas Nickleby you would like (btw my mom just finished that and What is the What, and now she's getting the Picture of Dorian Gray!!! she's coming over to the dark side!!!)

WHAT DO YOU MEAN UNTIL THE LAST HALF HOUR SAMWISE BOYD?!?!?!?!?!?!? the whole thing is good...except Willoughby Wallaby Woo...he's weeery bad.

I'm also glad you're enjoying your church! what brought about the change/anything specific? it just seems so sudden.

have fun on vacation! remember - pictures pictures pictures!

i loved the whole movie and then promptly fell asleep when everything got predictable and boring and uninnovative and dry and mushy and revenge-filled and fulfilling.

Dorothy said...

yep. officially a hopeless cause. you should try reading the BOOK.

Anonymous said...

Oh come on, every movie, or book, at least most of them, you can predict what is going to happen at some point in time.

Sam said...

i don't know how to read. i barely know my abc's.

it was more the fault of the filmmakers than jane austen's plot. the filmmakers just got bored and followed a script instead of thinking up things, which bored me.
the actors were ready to go home and be done with the movie.

MJ said...

Don't know how to read, Sam? This is worse than I thought.

I'm sorry that you don't want to go on a trip, Em. Maybe this will be a chance for you to get closer with your siblings, you can do it, you know (this could be a really good test of patience for you). And I must apologize for talking about how much I love my family vacations. I wish too much that .... well, never mind.

Love you!

MJ said...

Oh, and about what Lucy said about beauty. I have to agree with her. (Obviously) But it's amazing how much easier to appreciate the beauty when it is taken away from you.

For a while I was wearing glasses that weren't strong enough. When I got them strengthened, I was dumbfounded and amazed at how beautiful, detailed, and clear everything was. Slowly, though, I got used to it, and it's harder to appreciate the beauty that was new to me just weeks before.

But it's not impossible. Look at the grass, you can see every blade, look at the trees and notice every leaf, the pattern of the bark, the moss, the ivy. The world is full of those little details that are mind boggling and awe-inspiring. All you have to do is notice them.

Oh my goodness MJ is back!

We missed you!

Finally!

Sam said...

she's back and she's brilliant--excellent stuff, mj

Anonymous said...

OK, we have to start some random conversation on here so that when she gets back there is like 70 comments she needs to read.

How do you feel about purple markers?

Dorothy said...

Hey, maybe we can pass 100! wait - how long is she gone for?

disgusting. They remind me of that fake grape flavor you always get at the dentists and in cough syrup, and they smell bad too.

now blue markers, that's an entirely different story. blue like the sky!

MJ said...

markers, pah.

*smiles* I'll go back and read some of the things that you guys talked about.

Anonymous said...

I like the lavender color purple.
The really dark ones are ugly and they stain my white shirt.

Anonymous said...

lol

Anonymous said...

Grape flavored dentist goo is SOOO nasty! But, people like it though. *shudders*

Anonymous said...

lol

Dorothy said...

Oh oh oh!!! My orthodontist, he has like twenty flavors for impressions. When I had mine, I always got mint flavored. The only had six or seven when I got mine. So I go in for my final appointment just to check my retainers, and another girl is getting her impressions right? The gal is like "tuity fruity, bubble gum, mint, strawberry, COOKIE DOUGH, blah blah blah" and I'm like, "YOU DIDN'T HAVE COOKIE DOUGH WHEN I GOT MY IMPRESSIONS!!!!!!!!" yeah. no fair.

We are doing really lousily (is that even a word?) if we want to leave Em a million comments.

Oh yes, and my favorite Jane Austen book, of the three I've read lol, was definitely Pride and Prejudice. In a couple years I'll finally find time to read another one...*sigh* Emma was cool, although I liked Sense and Sensibility better. If you're delving into Dickens mnm, you should definitely try Nicholas Nickleby first. Then we can all go wild over Smike together!!! (yes, we're geeks, and what's more we admit it) and then try the Picture of Dorian Gray. My mom's reading that now. Amazingly weird wonderful book.

MJ said...

now let's consider the subject of randomnes, kacy...

Anonymous said...

I don't think I would like the cookie dough, just the though of artificial cookie dough makes me. . .

Well, you get the picture.

Randomness!

Tassel

Dorothy said...

Yeah, I agree, but at the time it sounded really good, maybe just because I hadn't had the option before.

Sorry MJ. Em asked me a few questions to answer while she was gone by leaving comments on her blog, so it seemed a lot, well, random, like me normally, but it had a point!

Why does life always have to have a point?

Dorothy said...

MNM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I KNOW you are checking this blog and I KNOW you are in a hotel and I KNOW you have internet access and I don't know why you haven't posted about the amazing time you're having yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I TOTALLY agree! that was AWESOME!!! I laughed SO HARD...yeah, we always need a good laugh, about twice an hour I think for me. It's like a caloric intake or something, laughter intake per day: forty eight doses. I absolutely loved that.
