I'll walk down the lane with a happy refrain

cuz I'm sing'n
and dance'n in the rain
do da-do do, do do do da-do do...

This song always reminds me of Verya now.
And Favorite Things reminds me of Lindy.
And We're Off To See the Wizard reminds me of Anna.
And the Tigger song reminds me of Sam.

I was looking at my buddie blog list the other day and marveling at what amazing friends I have. One snatched out of forty from freshmen year at school, the guy I never talked to the first year of co-op adopted as a brother the next, the swing dancing girl from summer camp becoming dearer than life overnight and bringing her big sister with her, two cousins who were my childhood playmates, their friend snatched out of obscurity in a co-op neither of them attend anymore, my little sister's best friend and her big brother, a neighbor girl from home school PE in sixth grade- it never occurred to me before, but you guys are quite an unlikely bunch. It's like a patchwork quilt, clipping out the only part of old material that isn't worn and burned and faded and ugly and stitching it with the choice squares from other material, to create something strong and lasting and beautiful.

Two Pakistani missionaries were murdered yesterday in their own home. Sometimes when I imagine what that must be like, to have a square of your home-made quilt ripped out and leave a gapping hole behind, it's all I can do to not cry. It makes me want to hold on to life so much tighter, to do more for people and smile more and say "I love you" more and mean it more- to trace the patterns in the fabric and appreciate the vibrant colors. There's so much I'm holding back. I don't even know why. But I want to give it all away.

well yeah, we're big
and we're smaller than small
in the scheme of things
well, we're nothing at all
but we're all we've got on this bouncing ball
so i love you free
i love you freely

Em I LOVE this post! I love the way you put our "patch work" of friends. It's so fitting. :)

A girl who loves journals as much as I ends up being my best friend. :)

Em you are SO poetic. How do you come up with these things?

word, emily joy.
i too have songs that remind me of every one. of my friends, just seeing their face reminds me of the song that's our song that we sing together i've thought about this many times, lol.

death, too, is what has stared me in the face with noah and everything going on.

you put energy to words so many times emily...you know, i think you should become a writer. have you ever thought about being a writer? you might actually be kind of good at it.

a girl I depised as a dreaded older sister without brains and told, as I recall, that the dress made you look big.
well it did!

do you remember Patience? I do. all those roses for the tea party? I do. the cobbler you burned instead of tea? I do.

I always think of AllStar when I think of any of you guys. I remember at camp after the hike we were in line for dinner Sam turns to me, *how now your a rock star get your game on go play" I thought it the most random most wonderful thing that happened all day. :)

Em! Promise me you will never take down AllStar from your myspace! At least, for a while yet. :)

Your one of the first real friends I've had in a long time. And I'm glad you are my friend!

All Star is staying on my profile until I next see Lindy, at least. :-)

and we won't talk about what I thought of Anna before we became best friends. *sticks up nose*

*hugs everybody*

I almost forgot to mention, thank you for the letter! The paper was really pretty.

I try not to make too many plans for the future because any time I do that, God has different plans.
Hey Kacy, here is the answer to one of your questions I never answered, sorry! As far as college goes, I have decided to go to the Master's Mission. It's a school specifically for training and teaching the person the bible and about being a missionary. And of course, it is way over in North Carolina. The reason I decided to go with them is because of their specific training and biblical doctrine. If you wanted to check out their website it's www.mastersmission.org
Right now I'm just saving my money for it. I'm hoping to go in the spring time, at the beginning of March. Don't worry, I'll be back for Camp Hope, maybe I will be a councilor next year!

Hey thanks Lucy!

Yeah, I was gonna say All Star is totally what Sam will be connected to in my mind forever.

Anna - I'm not sure what her song is yet. it's too late (or early) to think about such things. I guess I'll assign everybody later. I think mnm pretty much nailed it down in her post actually....

and yeah, it's a gorgeous post. it made me very happy! and em, you SHOULD be a writer. I know it's your life, lol, and you're throwing around ideas still, but I guess I just want you to know the natural talent that you have, in case you ever doubted it!

haha thank you em!! I can't WAIT till the part and I see you again! And every one els too of course. :)

Hey Sam, how is Noah? I heard he had his surgery, but that was about it.

Ugg . . . the comment by Michaela is actually by me. Whoops. Why am I the only one making these mistakes?

Sometimes, I feel like I missed a whole lot not going on the hike to Goats Peak, and missing dinner . . . and the car ride home. That makes me sad. : ( Of course, I did get to go into Withrop with Elizabeth, unlike anyone else, and get lost with the Juniors. : ) Oh wait, I didn't actually get lost. They did. Okay, I got to be scared about the lost Juniors.

Noooo...it's really great that we all have different memories about camp to share with each other.

to be honest Bethany, the All Star waved missed me until the ride home.

Entierly.

Don't feel bad. :-)

Those sound like some pretty good plans, Lucy! Thanks for sharring.

lol i would be honored to be thought of in the same thought as all star. though for me it is the camp hope song. as soon as i saw it was going to be on carolyn's cd i knew it was going to be the camp hope song and i would help it along a little bit to get it there.

noah's surgery went GREAT 100 percent awesome i haven't heard for a bit how he's been doing, but i think no news means good news. thank you everyone for your prayers.

that's okay beth...you were in on the spoons game, right? we need even a bigger van for the ride home. like...a...VOLKSWAGEN. i'm on it.

hm well i've always sort of liked emily and i don't think i even pretended not to.
though i've spent a good deal of my life not liking anna, lol.

lindy said...

oh Sam.... that's just harsh. :P

Em, have you watched Dead Like Me?

Dorothy said...

*cringe*

ouch.

Good point, I was in the spoons game, which was SO fun, and of course volleyball. It sounds like all star missed most people anyway. And, I did feel like I did a pretty good job of being everywhere at once. : ) Camp Hope last year may have been my favorite yet . . . but we shall see what I think next year.

I think that our whole group should hijack the big white van. I think that would work.

Sam said...

we totally should.

lindy said...

I'm in :)

MJ said...

maybe. "our group" will suddenly be almost everyone at Camp Hope...

Hey, I forgot to mention, I heard about those missionaries two. Pretty Scary. I bet the C- family is rather shaken.

emily said...

yeah, I think they are. So is Pastor M.

Dorothy said...

oh but I have GOOD news about missionaries. Two of the families I know who live in Hyderabad are in America right now, and there were two bombings in Hyderabad last month, in very public areas, like a park and somewhere else. They could have been there, but they're not! Praise God for that!

emily said...

hey, that is good news!
